Could my computer’s memory be adversely affected by my hifi loudspeaker magnets?
My PC presently stands a little less than a metre away from one of my hifi loudspeakers, which contains two very powerful magnets. Could their magnetic fields impair the performance of the computer’s memory chips, or any other microprocessors
in it? They certainly pull round the needle of a magnetic compass.
No. The E.M.F (electro magnetic force) of the magnets is small and would only damage a crt if very close. The computer base unit will be fine.
Your compass needle would not be affected 1 meter away.
If you had a very strong magnet with high E.M.F (like the type sometimes used to pick up cars in scrap yards) then you could have problems.
