Can I delete files form my computer once I’ve moved them to an external drive?
I have done a complete backup on a Western Digital Passport (reformatted it to NTFS) and then on another one I have made another copy of all my documents and photos that I use regularly (Kept in FAT). Can I now delete the photos and doc’s from the computer and just use them off the WD (not the one I did the main back up on)? I’d like to free up some space on my laptop and I’ve already removed all the programs, etc. that are useless to me. Thank you very much for what I am sure is a simple answer!
I’d wait a while (Passports have shown a very high early failure rate – they’ll replace the drive, but not your data), but yes. Deleting the files from your hard drive, assuming you copies the files and not shortcuts, won’t affect the files on the Passports.
